I am extremely honoured, indeed privileged to be given the opportunity to represent Teesside Golf Club as Captain for 2013. I would like to thank John Taylor and the membership for allowing me to do so. I promise I will perform my duties with pride and to the best of my ability during the 2013/14 season.
Teesside Golf Club continues to move forward with even more improvements to the course last year as well as improvements within the golf club itself. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Steve Charnock, Burt Perry and their committee for their efforts in what was a very trying year weather wise. My special thanks go to Gary and his greens staff for their hard work under sometimes extreme conditions. These lads to me are the unsung heroes at Teesside Golf Club and deserve every plaudit they receive from every member of the club.
The Clubhouse is well established in the area and renowned for its fine food and warm welcome to all its members and their guests. Ian and Sharon Wood and their staff are to be congratulated as it is down to their efforts that the Clubhouse has established such a good reputation.
The House Chairman Andy Todd and his team which consists of Gordon Milestone and Dave Carter are organising and promoting social events throughout the year and I ask you to continue to support them as you did last year.
Joe Kay with the support of Stewart Pilgrim continue to attract more sponsors to the club as well as encouraging more visiting parties to play on our very special course.
The Competitions Chairman Nigel McMaster and his team did an excellent job last year when through adverse weather conditions they had to re-arrange a lot of competitions and did so very well indeed. I know Ni and his team will put the same effort in this year and I wish you all the best of luck. I would also at this point like to personally thank Ted Pickering for all his help with comps. Week in week out he is there scrutinising cards and competition sheets which is very much appreciated by us all.
The club Pro Shop is expertly run by Stewart Pilgrim and his assistant Pro Shaun Goswami. The “Pro-Am” which Stewart and Shaun were so instrumental in organising last year has now been re-organised for Friday 28/06/2013. I ask that the membership give Stewart and Shaun the support that they need throughout the year. I wish them both the very best of luck for 2013.
I would like to wish the Lady Captain and the Junior Captain and their sections a very good year and if I can be of any help to you please do not hesitate to ask.
My selected charity is the `Friends of Early Support` which is a children`s centre on Tedder Avenue in Thornaby. This charity receives no government funding even though it comes under Stockton Council ruling. If you get the chance do pop in and see the tremendous work that is undertaken and you will understand why I have chosen this as my Captains Charity.
Finally I would like to thank Steve Wood for accepting my invitation to be my Vice Captain and I look forward to working with him throughout the year. Steve is also our club secretary working alongside Carol Hall who has been with Teesside Golf Club for many years. They make an excellent team (with Carol as the real boss) and I thank them both for their hard work and efforts. Long may it continue.
I would like to wish you all a very happy year at Teesside Golf Club and HAPPY GOLFING.
